A two (2) day Health Screening exercise for food vendors at Aworowa

Posted on April 19, 2024October 8, 2024 By Abdul Aziz Ibrahim

From April 17 to April 18, 2024, a two-day health screening exercise was conducted for food and drink vendors, as well as water hawkers, in the communities of Atrensu, Ayeasu, Kokroko, Kokoago, and Aworowa Secondary School. Organized by the Environmental Health Officers in collaboration with the Laboratory Technician from Aworowa Health Centre, the screening aimed to promote public health and food safety.

During the exercise, personal details such as names, contact numbers, ages, and locations of food vendors, water hawkers, drinking spot owners, cold store operators, and restaurant owners were recorded. The Laboratory Officer conducted tests for Hepatitis B and other diseases, with the results submitted to the designated Environmental Health Officers for Aworowa. All test results were kept confidential and communicated directly to the vendors, with those testing positive for any illness referred to the Health Centre for further treatment.

As part of the hygiene education, vendors were sensitized on the importance of personal hygiene, avoiding food sales near open drains, proper handwashing with soap under running water, and keeping dustbins covered to prevent flies. The primary goal of the exercise was to raise awareness of food safety practices and ensure the health and safety of consumers.
