The District STMIE coordinator had a meeting with the District Director and Management. He later had similar meetings with the SISOs and the various head teachers/masters about the exercise. In fact, all stakeholders welcomed the idea and stated that it would go a long way to help demystify the notion that mathematics is difficult to learn. The table below indicates the number of schools in the District.
National Mathematics Day was being celebrated every December 22 to honour the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujem who was born on 22nd December 1887 and later died on 29th April 1920 at the age of 32 years. She had propounded 3500 mathematics formulas which have not yet been proven by scientist. This day of celebration was later changed from 22nd December to 26th February in 2012 by the former Prime Minister Dr. Mommohansigh and now 14th February every year.

PURPOSE OF THE CELEBRATION
The purpose of the celebration was to create or raise strong awareness among people about the importance of mathematics for the development of humanity. This year’s celebration was themed “Mathematics For A Better World”. This is to help demystify the perception of students that mathematics is the most difficult subject in all study. This day also edged people to increase a positive attitude towards learning mathematics and mathematicians. Teachers and students are to be provided training for mathematics and research in different areas of mathematics. This however gave an opportunity for the mathematics teachers to showcase lot of Exhibitions for student/pupils to develop interest in mathematics.
INSPECTION OF THE CELEBRATION DAY
The District Director took keen interest in the celebration. She ensured that every school adhered to the directives and participated actively. The Director released and fueled one of the pick-ups for monitoring and charged every SISO to actively get involved in the exercise in their respective circuits. The Regional STMIE Coordinator joined the District Coordinator for the monitoring.
OBSERVATION OF COVID -19 PROTOCOLS
We observed during our monitory that all covid -19 protocols were strictly adhered to, to avoid the spread of this deadly disease with only a few students/pupils not wearing nose mask.

- Funds should be made available for the celebration in future
- There should be early notification of the date and time for the programe
- There should be a workshop for all STMIE coordinators before the programe.
