The 39th National Farmers Day was held as a joint for all the districts in Bono East Region at Kintampo Municipal Assembly on Friday 1st December 2023.
In a welcome address, the Honourable MCE Isaac Bafffoe Ameyaw honoured our gallant farmers who have over the years fed this nation and continue to feed us despite numerous challenges. He indicated that this is the first joint Farmer Day for all the districts to be held to show appreciation to our hardworking farmers for their immense contribution towards economic development in Bono East Region.
The MCE used the occasion to advised farmers in the districts to see farming as business and seek all the necessary inputs and technologies to maximize yields. The MCE also encouraged farmers to fully embrace the government flagship programmes of plating for food and jobs and planting for export and rural development.
The Regional Minister Honourable Kwasi Adu Gyan expressed gratitude to the chiefs of kintampo and all stakeholders who in one way or the other made this day a memorable one. He, however, congratulated our hardworking farmers for their tremendous effect towards food production in the country. He stated that the theme for this year’s celebration “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience” was thus strategically selected to meet the successes under the interventions initiated under the government. He indicated that agricultural sector should continue receiving needed attention to ensure food security and job creation.
The Regional Minister encouraged the youth to enter into business of agriculture and its related ventures since government‘s policies on Planting for Food and Jobs as well as Planting for Export and Rural Development is available to support them.
A 53-year-old farmer, Nana Owusu Kwabena Sarpong was crowned the district best farmer for Techiman North Assembly. He went home with motor king and other items. Nana Kwaku Korsah and Mr. Adubea Tabita became 1st and 2nd runner ups respectively.
