DCE Engages Senior High School Headmasters in Techiman North District

Posted on July 15, 2025July 18, 2025 By James Ankamah

On July 15, 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) convened a meeting with all senior high school head teachers at the Mini Conference Hall of the Assembly. The meeting brought together head teachers from seven schools: Tuobodom Senior High Technical School, St Francis’ Seminary/Senior High School, Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High School, Krobo Senior High School, Boako Effah Senior High School, Hope International Senior High School and Abrafi Senior High School.

Meeting Objectives
The meeting aimed to discuss the successes and challenges faced by the senior high schools in the district. Key highlights included:

  • Academic Achievements:
    • Excellent WASSCE performance over the past five years, with some schools achieving 100% pass rates.
    • Active participation in the National Science and Math Quiz, with hopes of reaching the national level.
  • Sports Achievements:
    • Students excelled in various sporting activities at zonal and regional levels, with Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High School winning both boys and girls athletics games.
  • Infrastructural Development:
    • Schools renovated existing structures and successfully solicited funds for developmental projects.

The meeting provided a platform for the DCE and head teachers to share insights and discuss strategies for improving educational outcomes in the district.

During the meeting, the head teachers highlighted several challenges affecting the schools’ performance and student experience. These challenges include:

  • Infrastructure and Resources:
    • Lack of well-equipped science laboratories
    • Lack of staff bungalows
    • Insufficient furniture for teachers and students
    • Dilapidated classrooms
    • Lack of dormitories for boys and girls
    • No computer labs
    • No school buses
  • Facilities:
    • Need for a dining hall complex
    • Poor electrical system (specifically mentioned by Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High School)
  • Administrative and Academic:
    • Lack of non-teaching staff
    • Disciplinary issues
    • Examination malpractice resulting in cancellation of core subjects for many students
  • Support:
    • Lack of motivation for PTA members despite organizing extra classes for students
  • Security:
    • Insecurity concerns

The head teachers appealed to the District Chief Executive for assistance in addressing these challenges to improve the educational environment and outcomes in their schools.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) responded to the challenges raised by the head teachers, offering assurance and guidance. Key points from his response include:

  • Support for Private Schools: The DCE assured Hope International Senior High School that their challenges would be communicated to the Member of Parliament for consideration.
  • School Conversion: Schools interested in transitioning from day to boarding systems were advised to submit formal requests through the DCE’s office.
  • Furniture Support: Schools in need of furniture were encouraged to write officially to the district assembly to request support. The DCE also emphasized the importance of repairing broken furniture to maximize resources.
  • Collaboration and Best Practices: Head teachers were encouraged to maintain regular contact, share strategies, and handle issues with care, fairness, and transparency in their management practices.
  • Security Concerns: The DCE assured the head teachers that security challenges would be discussed at the District Security Council (DISEC) meeting to enhance safety measures in schools.

The DCE’s response reflects a commitment to supporting the district’s educational institutions and addressing their challenges collaboratively.
