Empowering Communities through Child Protection and Social Welfare Initiatives: Community Development Unit Achievements

The Department of Social Development in the Techiman North District has been working tirelessly to promote the welfare of children and vulnerable groups. Through various initiatives, the department has made significant strides in sensitizing communities on child protection issues, gender equality, and social welfare programs.

Key Initiatives:

  • Child Protection Sensitization: The department conducted sensitization programs in five communities, engaging 1,524 people on child protection issues, including the importance of distributing roles equally among boys and girls.
  • LEAP Payment: The department facilitated the payment of LEAP grants to 680 households in 30 communities, providing financial support to vulnerable families.
  • NHIS Registration: The department registered and renewed NHIS cards for 600 indigenes, ensuring access to healthcare services for vulnerable groups.

Impact:

  • Increased Awareness: The sensitization programs have led to a significant increase in awareness on child protection issues and gender equality in the communities.
  • Improved Livelihoods: The LEAP program has provided financial support to vulnerable families, improving their livelihoods and access to basic necessities.

  • Limited Resources: The department faces challenges in terms of limited resources, including motorbikes and funds, which hinders their ability to effectively implement programs.
