The Tailoring business is one of the common enterprises engaged in by the people in the Techiman North District, as compared with their counterparts in other parts of the region and the country as a whole, fashion designers in the district are far behind in terms of business capacity, product branding and business organization. Over some months ago, some of these tailors during the inauguration of the zonal council chairmen made it known for the need for capacity building. This was supposed to be captured in the 2022-2025 medium-term plan. The BAC decided to organize this training early with the help of the zonal town council chairmen (Aworowa, Krobo, Offuman, Tuobodom and Buoyem) starting with Aworowa and Krobo.

The workshop was held at the Krobo ICT Centre in Krobo. the workshop was held every week on Wednesday for four weeks straight from 5th May to 26th May. A total number of 16 tailors and dressmakers attended the workshop with three(3) males and sixteen(16) females.

Participants were taken through the modern ways some popular fashion enterprises have engaged in product branding which have spearheaded an increase in their productivity, customer satisfaction and increased revenue, product exceptionality. Participants were directed to shops that sell affordable branding material like transparent polythene, printing and photocopy shops that creates and designs logos, prints business cards and stickers at affordable prices. Every participant was assisted in creating unique business names for their enterprises. Business logos were created for every participant to assist them in their product branding journey.

On the second day, participants were taken through the various parts of the sewing machine (the industrial sewing machine and man-powered machine). Participants were taken through the various hacks in using these machines to stitch and also design symbols on fabrics. Also, participants were taught the various ways to fix the machines when it exhibits some difficulties. Participants were also introduced to modern tools used mainly in industrial companies for clothing making. These tools will help them produce ready-made clothes for the market.

Participants were also taken through the various panels and darts used in designing gowns and suits. These enable cloths to be sewed quickly and beautifully. Also, the facilitator went through the various panels and dart used in making both men and women suits. At the end of day three, participants had the knowledge of all the darts and panels used in the creation of both men and women dress. They experimented with these darts and panels using brown paper.

After all the panels and darts were taught and experimented with, participants had the privilege of learning how to cut out the various parts of a suit using brown cardboard paper before transferring the knowledge onto a fabric. At the end of the training, the participant together with the facilitator was able to make a suit which was given to the Hon. Enoch, Chairman of Krobo Zonal Town Council.

A special thanks to the Zonal Town Council Chairman of Krobo Hon. Enoch Assah for his immense contribution to this workshop.
