Techiman North District Marks 69th Independence Anniversary with Grand Parade in Akrofrom

Posted on March 6, 2026March 30, 2026 By mis

The Techiman North District Assembly, in collaboration with the Techiman North District Education Directorate, successfully organised the 69th Independence Anniversary Parade on Friday, March 6, 2026. The event took place at the Methodist School Park in Akrofrom, drawing a large crowd of stakeholders, dignitaries, and the general public.

The celebration served as a tribute to Ghana’s founding fathers and freedom fighters, led by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who declared Ghana’s independence on March 6, 1957. This historic achievement established Ghana as the first sub-Saharan African nation to break free from British colonial rule.

This year’s event was held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” reflecting the government’s broader agenda for economic recovery and national renewal. The programme brought together key stakeholders, including the District Chief Executive (DCE), the District Coordinating Director, the District Director of Education, traditional authorities (Nananom), political representatives, heads of departments, security services, assembly members, teachers, pupils, and the media.

The primary objectives of the event were to promote patriotism, unity, discipline, and a sense of national pride—especially among the younger generation.

The programme commenced promptly at 7:00 a.m. with the arrival of the District Chief Executive for Techiman North District, Hon. Johnson Kwabena Adom, alongside the District Coordinating Director and traditional rulers. Students and school contingents assembled in an orderly fashion, preparing for the parade, while guests were ushered to their designated seats, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

The Chairman of the occasion, Nana Owusu Akyear Brempong, Akrofrom Kyeremansa Hene, delivered a brief address welcoming all attendees. He emphasised the importance of the Independence Day celebration as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers. He encouraged students to remain disciplined, respect their teachers and elders, and take their education seriously.

Following the singing of the National Anthem, the DCE inspected the parade, walking past the various school contingents to acknowledge their preparedness and commitment to the celebration.

Mr Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim, the District Director of Education for Techiman North, delivered the welcome remarks. He reflected on the significance of Ghana’s independence in 1957 and commended teachers in the district for their dedication. He noted that independence is not only a celebration but also a call for collective responsibility, patriotism, and unity.

Hon. Johnson Kwabena Adom, the District Chief Executive, delivered the anniversary address. He highlighted the government’s commitment to economic recovery through initiatives in education, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth employment. Notable interventions mentioned included the construction of classroom blocks, improvements to health facilities, road infrastructure projects, and the distribution of 10,000 day-old chicks to farmers under the Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme.

The DCE urged students to avoid social vices and focus on their education, emphasising that education remains a key tool for national development. He concluded by calling for unity and collective efforts from all stakeholders to support the development of the district and the nation.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the march past by various schools within the district. Participating schools demonstrated a high level of discipline, coordination, and enthusiasm as they marched before the dignitaries and the audience, drawing applause and admiration from spectators.

Best BECE Student for the year 2025

As part of the recognition ceremony, Adjei Theophilus Mawuli of Krobo RC JHS was honoured as the Best Boy Candidate in the 2025 BECE in the district. He obtained an aggregate score of 16 and was presented with a citation in recognition of his outstanding academic performance.

St. Francis Seminary – Buoyem, Best Performing Senior High School in the WASSEC

Additionally, St. Francis Seminary Senior High School, Buoyem, was recognised as the Best Performing Senior High School in the WASSEC within the district. The award honoured the school’s exceptional academic performance and served as an inspiration to other institutions.

Following the march past, the Master of the Ceremonies announced the results of the parade and declared the best-performing schools. Certificates of participation were also presented to all participating schools as a token of appreciation.

Madam Diana Yeboah of Aworowa IRC JHS delivered the Vote of Thanks. She expressed sincere appreciation to the District Chief Executive, the District Coordinating Director, the Education Directorate, traditional authorities, teachers, security services, and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful organisation of the event.

The programme was brought to a close with a closing prayer offered by Alhaji Tahiru Adam, the Deputy Chief Imam, who prayed for peace, unity, and continuous development for Ghana.

The 69th Independence Anniversary Parade in the Techiman North District was successfully organised and served as an important platform to commemorate Ghana’s independence. The celebration promoted patriotism, unity, discipline, and national pride among pupils, students, and members of the public. Participants departed peacefully, marking the end of a successful and memorable celebration.
