ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAM ON MULTI-DIMENSIONAL POVERTY INDEX BY GHANA STATISTICS SERVICE

Posted on June 24, 2024October 8, 2024 By Abdul Aziz Ibrahim

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the Ghana Statistical Service organized a one-day training on Multi-Dimensional Poverty for the staff of the Techiman North District Assembly. The training focused on analyzing the proportion of the population experiencing multidimensional poverty, taking into account factors such as household size, sex, age, locality, education level, employment sector, and marital status. It was revealed that 15% of the district’s household population of 99,798 is multidimensionally poor, with an intensity of 41.8%.

Deprivations in employment and health insurance were identified as the dominant contributors to poverty, showing significant variability across the district’s 13 key indicators. The educational and employment status of household heads were found to play a major role in determining the poverty levels of their households. Additionally, intra-district disparities in access to basic needs were highlighted.

The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report for Techiman North District underscores the need for a holistic approach to tackling poverty and improving community well-being. By addressing the following key areas, the district can make meaningful progress:

  • Education: Improving access to quality education.
  • Healthcare: Enhancing healthcare facilities and services.
  • Economic Empowerment: Creating job opportunities and promoting entrepreneurship.
  • Basic Amenities: Providing clean water, sanitation, and electricity.
  • Social Protection: Supporting vulnerable groups.
  • Governance and Partnerships: Strengthening leadership and fostering collaborative partnerships.

The report calls for concerted efforts to understand these challenges and implement comprehensive solutions for the betterment of the district’s residents.
