The management of the Techiman North District Assemble held the last management meeting for the year 2023. The District Chief Executive, Hon. Everson Addo – Donkor chaired the meeting and was assisted by the District Coordinating director, Mrs. Georgina Tumbakorah.
The District Chief Executive in his opening remarks welcomed members to the meeting and thanked members for honoring the invitation. According to him, this meeting will be the last Management meeting for the year 2023 and took the opportunity to thank Management members who put all hands-on deck in working effectively to improve on the performance of the Assembly in 2023.He took the opportunity to advised members to desist from doing politics during the incoming District Local Elections on the 19th of December,2023. He therefore called on Members to contribute effectively for a successful meeting.
The District Co-ordinating Director added her voice and welcomed members to the meeting. She applauded members for their dedication, hard work, and support for the year 2023. She therefore urged members not to relent on their efforts rather to work harder for the total development of the district. She reminded members of the 39th Farmers Day celebration and urged members to fully support the National activity. She therefore advised members to shun the attitude of lateness to work, especially in the year 2024 in other not to hinder the progress of the Assembly and added that Mondays are not holidays, therefore there is the need of attitudinal change. She reiterated that work starts from 8:00am and closes at 5:pm, hence lateness next year would not be accepted, and any officer should seek permission before leaving the office or seek permission for absenting him/herself.
BRIEFING FROM VARIOUS HEADS OF DEPARTMENT
The various heads of department brief the house the activities that have been carried out within the last quarter of the year. The following are the reports given by the various departments.
Department of Agricultural
The Head of the Department of Agric reported to the Committee the activities that have been carried in the fourth quarter. They were as follows:
- A total of 3784 farmers were contacted through field visit by 18 AEA’s
- 184 Supervisory visits by 6 District Officer.
- Monitoring and Supervisory visit was carried out by District Director of Agric.
- 28 Women have been trained on Farmer Business School in Staff Technical Review Meeting, TEDMAG training for staffs.
- Facilitated market linkage for three Cassava Farmer Association by signing MOU with four processing outfit and two merchants by the end of the year,2023.
Department of Education
The District Director of Education highlighted the following activities that was carried out by the department as follows:
- Receiving and distribution of teaching and learning resources.
- Supervising and monitoring of usage and storage of teaching and learning resources.
- Routine monitoring and supervision by District Director, SISOs and unit coordinators.
- Organizing Workshops and In-service Trainings for teachers.
- Vetting SPIP and Costing Sheets of public Schools
- Organizing zonal level reading competition
- Monitoring 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examinations for School Candidates
- District Director attended the director’s Conference in Wa.
- De-worming of Pupils was completed in the quarter.
- Director monitored admission of first year students to SHS.
- Lively Minds organized workshop for Kindergarten Teachers.
- Workshop organized for schools without Management Unit.
- The Directorate organized a program to honor ten Retirees and a Hardworking female teacher.
Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.
The Head of Social Welfare and Community Development made it known to the Committee activities carried out during the Quarter.
- The Department facilitated the renewal of NHIA cards for fifty-six (56) LEAP beneficiaries, four hundred and three (403) indigents and one (1) physically challenged person to enable them access to free medical care within the district.
- Family Tribunal and Juvenile Court sat for fourteen (56) consecutive times.
- During the quarter under review the Department facilitated LEAP payment for 30.
- communities with 680 households.
Business Advisory Centre
- Deskbound Business Counselling was organized to interact with clients to address some of the problems they were facing.
- The BAC in this quarter registered 37 Hairdresser for the September NVTI exams in Tuobodom and 17 dressmakers within the district.
- All the 15 advanced level beneficiaries of the Youstart GJSP project who have started their business or have existing business together with some from the basic and intermediate.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY MEMBERS.
The District Coordinating Director led discussion of the decisions of the third (3rd) General Assembly Meeting of the Assembly held on Tuesday ,24th October,2023 for the implementation by Management and charged the various officer to as task.
The District Chief Executive charged the District Director of Education and his officers to pay a visit to Offuman D/A School to know the cause of the overcrowding and take in measures to prevent it and report to him before the end of the Year,2023. In addition, The Head of Works was charged to write letters to invite all mechanized borehole operators in the district for a meeting. The District Coordinating Director was also charged by the District Chief Executive to call for a meeting and constitute a Committee and Sub-committees for it to be inaugurated for work to start since time was far gone.
Also, The District Chief Executive tasked the District Finance Officer to make sure that funds are available for fuel to enable the police patrol effectively during the Christmas festivities.
More to that, The District Chief Executive charged NADMO Director to get in collaboration with Ghana National Fire Service to undertake intensive public education on bushfire in the district. The Assistant Director 1 (Remigious Tengzah) was charged by DCE to write letter to NCCE Director to sensitize the public and create awareness on the District Level Election and encourage women to contest for election as Assembly Members and Unit Committee members. He added that there is supposed to be a percentage of Women for DPAT requirement, he therefore requested for them to let the public know the need for women in the Assembly.
The district coordinating director made the house known that in the subsequent year some of the staff will be taken to the various area councils. The DCD reminded Department and Unit Heads not to hesitate to release staffs working under them to go to where they have been reposted to for this will also help generate money for the Assembly.
The Chairman in his closing remarks expressed his gratitude to members for their constructive contributions which had brought the meeting to a successful end. He advised management members to be proactive and work as a team so that together we could move Techiman North Assembly forward.
