Techiman North District Honors Top Farmers, Charts Path for Agro-Industrial Growth at 41st National Farmers’ Day

Posted on December 5, 2025December 6, 2025 By mis

The Techiman North District marked a significant milestone on Friday, December 5, 2025, as it hosted the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration at Mesidan under the theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana and Secure the Future.” The event brought together farmers, traditional leaders, government officials, and stakeholders to recognize agricultural excellence and outline transformative plans for the district’s agri-food sector.

In his address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Johnson Adom Kwabena, commended farmers for their resilience and vital contribution to food security and economic growth. He highlighted key government initiatives such as the Feed Ghana Project, Agroforestry Carbon Credit Program, and HAPPY Project for youth and women in tomato processing, all aimed at boosting productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting sustainable farming.

Hon. Kwabena also announced the ongoing Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry project, designed to revitalize local poultry production and reduce dependency on imported frozen chicken. He further revealed that 500 acres of land at Aboabo have been secured for an industrial hub to host factories that will process local farm produce.

The Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, reinforced the government’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a competitive and profitable venture. She assured farmers of ready markets through state procurement of local produce and announced that the cashew processing factory at Tanoboase is on track for completion by February 2026. This facility is expected to create jobs, reduce post-harvest waste, and strengthen the district’s position in the global cashew market.

Both leaders emphasized the need for innovation, mechanization, and value addition to overcome challenges such as climate change, price volatility, and post-harvest losses. They also addressed pressing social issues, including rising HIV rates and drug abuse among the youth, calling for community-wide action and support.

A total of 14 awards were presented to outstanding farmers and institutions across categories. Notable winners include:

Overall Best District Farmer, Kabar Azike from Kokoago, receives the keys to his new car. Congratulations!
  • Overall Best District Farmer: Kabar Azike (Kokoago) – awarded a car

  • Best Schools in Practical Agriculture: St. Francis Seminary SHS and Roman Catholic Basic School JHS

The award items—ranging from farm inputs and equipment to machinery and consumer goods—reflect a holistic approach to supporting farmers’ productivity and livelihoods.

Techiman North is poised to become a model for agro-industrial growth in Ghana. With ongoing projects in cashew processing, poultry value chains, tomato paste production, and a planned industrial hub, the district is steadily moving from subsistence farming to a market-driven, value-added agricultural economy.

The celebration concluded with a call to all farmers to remain innovative and resilient, and a reminder that agriculture remains the heartbeat of Ghana’s development.
