The programme, held on <strong>5th February 2026<\/strong>, forms part of Ghana\u2019s national strategy to <strong>deepen participatory democracy<\/strong>, <strong>enhance transparency<\/strong>, and <strong>strengthen accountability<\/strong> in local governance.<\/p>\n<p>The Social Audit initiative\u2014one of the NCCE\u2019s flagship programmes\u2014seeks to <strong>empower citizens with the knowledge and tools needed to monitor public projects<\/strong>, engage duty bearers constructively, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable community development.<\/p>\n<p>The District Chief Executive for Techiman North, <strong>Hon. Johnson Kwabena Adom<\/strong>, commended the NCCE for the initiative and described the engagement as timely and essential for promoting <strong>openness in public administration<\/strong>. He emphasised that effective development depends on <strong>active citizen participation<\/strong>, particularly in monitoring public projects and providing <strong>evidence\u2011based feedback<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the interactive session, the DCE acknowledged key concerns raised by residents, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Poor road conditions in the <strong>Tuoboduom Zongo<\/strong> area<\/li>\n<li>Persistent sanitation challenges<\/li>\n<li>Non-functional streetlights<\/li>\n<li>Community expectations regarding the <strong>Modern Market project<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hon. Adom assured participants that these issues had been duly noted and would be addressed as resources become available. He encouraged residents to support government initiatives, avoid misinformation, and maintain constructive engagement with duty bearers.<\/p>\n<p>The Bono East Regional Director of the NCCE, <strong>Mr. Joseph Kwaku Yeboah<\/strong>, delivered an insightful presentation on the role of <strong>social auditing in strengthening democratic governance<\/strong>. He explained that social audits help communities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify inequalities in access to public services<\/li>\n<li>Assess whether government programmes benefit all segments of society<\/li>\n<li>Provide <strong>evidence\u2011based recommendations<\/strong> to improve service delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He emphasised that democracy must be both <strong>procedural and substantive<\/strong>, ensuring fairness, inclusivity, and accountability across all levels of governance.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), <strong>Mr Samuel V. Nyamekye<\/strong>, underscored the importance of <strong>human rights protection<\/strong> in accountability processes. He reminded participants that citizens have the right to demand transparency and lawful conduct from public officials.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that social audits complement CHRAJ\u2019s mandate by promoting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financial and administrative accountability<\/li>\n<li>Respect for human rights<\/li>\n<li>Access to information<\/li>\n<li>Freedom of expression<\/li>\n<li>Protection against discrimination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr Nyamekye encouraged residents to view social auditing as a shared responsibility between citizens and duty bearers in building <strong>transparent, inclusive, and rights\u2011respecting communities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The engagement recorded strong participation from residents of <strong>Tuoboduom Zongo<\/strong> and surrounding communities. Participants asked questions, shared concerns, and sought guidance on applying social audit principles at the local level.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback from the programme indicated that participants gained a deeper understanding of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Civic responsibility<\/li>\n<li>Accountability mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Human rights<\/li>\n<li>The role of citizens in monitoring public projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Social Audit engagement significantly enhanced <strong>civic awareness<\/strong> and strengthened <strong>participatory governance<\/strong> within the Tuoboduom community.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Techiman North District Assembly<\/strong> commends the NCCE and CHRAJ for their collaborative efforts in empowering citizens and promoting accountable governance.
