The Techiman North District Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has launched an intensive district-wide anti-bush fire campaign as part of its proactive measures to combat the heightened risk of wildfires during the peak of the dry season.
The campaign, which commenced in early January 2026, has been led by zonal officers with support from operations and administrative staff, focusing primarily on farming communities where the risk of bush fires is most severe.
To ensure maximum outreach, the sensitization program has relied heavily on prominent community information centers across all five zones of the district. Messages have been strategically delivered during early morning (dawn) and evening hours when most residents are at home, significantly increasing audience reach and community participation.
The comprehensive campaign has addressed several critical areas including prevention of bush fires during farming and land preparation, safe use and control of fire in domestic and agricultural settings, the dangers of indiscriminate burning, and general disaster awareness encompassing environmental sanitation and fire safety.
Beyond bush fire education, the initiative has also tackled broader disaster risk issues, emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, recognizing early warning signs of hazards, and promoting community responsibility in disaster prevention.
The campaign has been sustained consistently throughout the quarter and has only reduced in intensity with the gradual onset of rains. It has successfully reached a large number of residents across the district and has contributed significantly to improving awareness and preventive practices at the community level.
District NADMO officials have expressed satisfaction with the level of community engagement and have called on residents to continue practicing safe fire management techniques even as the rainy season approaches.
