The Techiman North District Assembly, in close partnership with the Forestry Commission and the District Climate Change Committee, has successfully concluded its annual tree planting exercise along the vital corridor stretching from the Subin River to the official residence of the District Chief Executive (DCE) in Tuobodom.
The initiative, held on Friday, June 12, 2026, forms a core component of the Assembly’s environmental action plan, designed to promote afforestation, restore fragile ecosystems, and mitigate the escalating effects of climate change within the district.
The exercise witnessed active participation from a wide cross-section of the community, including the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Assembly Members, teachers, students, staff of the District Assembly, officials from the Forestry Commission, and local residents.
The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Enoch Bepomenko, Assembly Member for the Dompoase Electoral Area, who commended the unprecedented collaboration between stakeholders and urged all participants to nurture the newly planted trees to guarantee their long-term survival and environmental benefits.
Before the mass planting commenced, the District Coordinating Director, Mrs. Georgina Tumbakorah, and the District Director of Education, Mr. Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim, jointly performed the ceremonial planting of trees—symbolizing the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to environmental conservation.
In her address, Mrs. Tumbakorah engaged students on the importance of trees in improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, protecting water bodies, and fighting climate change. She urged everyone to take ownership of the exercise. “We must preserve our environment for future generations,” she said.
Mr. Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim, the District Director of Education, encouraged students to become environmental ambassadors by planting and caring for trees in their homes and communities. He expressed deep appreciation to teachers, students, and all stakeholders for their enthusiastic participation.
Following the addresses, participants planted a total of 1,200 tree seedlings along the stretch from the Subin River to the DCE’s residence. The exercise was executed successfully, demonstrating the district’s proactive approach to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The 2026 Tree Planting Exercise stands as a testament to what collaborative governance and community engagement can achieve. The restoration of the Subin River ecosystem, enhanced green cover, and strengthened climate mitigation efforts are expected to yield long-term benefits for the Techiman North District.
