The training was held on 14th September 2020, and the venue was continuation church Techiman. The workshop was a collaboration between Techiman Municipal and Techiman North NABCO Personnel. The number of trainees who attended the event was over 500 trainees, and all coordinators (Mr Isaac Nunoo and Mr Adjei Stephen) were present, including all the invited dignitaries like Hon. Peter Mensah (Techiman North D.E.C), Hon. Yiadom Boakye (Techiman Municipal M.P). The personals who took us through were Mr Seth Ahsa Adjei (1st Vice Chairman Npp Techiman South), Mr David Boakye (Regional Secretary Npp Bono East). Since we are not in regular times, all the COVID 19 protocols observed at the entrance before you enter the venue for the event. Mr Isaac Nunoo, the Techiman municipal coordinator, gave the open address, by welcoming trainees and all guest. He talked about the primary purpose of the workshop and reminded the trainees about the KPIs (KNOWLEDGE, PUNCTUALITY, INTEGRATE).

Hon. Yiadom Boakye

The first speaker was Hon. Yiadom Boakye, who took us through career focus learning which is one segment of the workshop. To achieve your career, you have to keep learning and searching to identify better for progress to who you want to be. He said online learning programs are significant as you we do our daily work in Nabco and on our leisure times. So that at the time we exit from the scheme we will move forward in the career pathway we working in.

Also, he said jobs are available on the internet, through searching and learning, one can identify jobs from sites like www.joberman.gh, www.job.com, www.ghanajob.com, www.sycareer.com. We will find any kinds of job appointment out there, and we should sometime volunteer to work for N.G.O.s, which can enhance our C.Vs during job intervenes. For acquiring employment, you have to search for jobs both private and in the government sector. Trainees should not sit and rely on Nabco scheme saying we want permanent jobs.

Mr Seth Ahsa Adjei

Entrepreneurship which was the second topic under career pathways, was handled, which Mr Seth Ahsa Adjei. He said you are not yet permanently employed, but you have to achieve certain things that will keep you growing. Is not only the government sector or someone private business that you need to be depending on in life. One has to set up his/her own business that will make life comfortable for your family. To be an entrepreneur, one has to set a new business by;

  • Identifying an opportunity; To create a new business, you have to identify the type of business you desire for, make research on it and be sure that you are best in it with excellent market purchase at the location you are setting it up.
  • Investment; trainees should be able to save and invest the little stipend received for their businesses not waiting for some considerable sum of money before setting up a business. Also, an entrepreneur should invest in the small profit earned on the company created.
  • Setting a Target; as an entrepreneur, the speaker said, you should be able to develop your business to a certain level within a given time, earn a set amount within that time also be able to employ some number of employees as time goes on.
  • Risk Management; he also let trainees release that, there is no business without considering losses and challenges. As your focus is on the profit you should be able to manage risk when the need arises.
  • Good Manners; as an entrepreneur and employer, you should pose a good personal relationship with both your customers and colleges/ supervisors. Create profitable customer relationship that can also be used as a form of advertisement, which increases your client base. If the client base increases, the business grows, and your profit level will be on point.
Mr David Boakye

The third speaker Mr David Boakye, who said about permanent employment. Which is part of the career pathway, through the training, the speaker educates us on how to acquire a permanent job in every environment that one finds him/herself by;

  • Being an asset; A trainee in your post should make your organization excel and keep your company progressing by the difference you make either by your work attitude, innovation, problem-solving solution, customers achieving etc. He said the company should miss your absence when you do not attain work just one day not to be a liability to the company.
  • Opportunity Winning; You should have an advantage over other into the permanent job field by your difference; hence the opportunity available is lesser than the number of applicants. For example; After the three years’ contract and the company is to retain some of the Nabco trainees. If you have the same qualification with other colleges, what will be the different thing the company will accept to choose you over them.
  • Rectify and Resolve problem: Try as must as possible to rectify and resolve issues with your management when release there is a problem between you and your supervisors so that any opportunity will not be hidden from you and also be recommended when there is an opportunity for a permanent job.
  • Self-Intelligence; You should be intelligent enough to progress not necessary with the level of your education.
Hon. Peter Mensah (D.C.E, Techiman North District)

It was time for one of our guest, Hon. Peter Mensah told us about how the special president initiative of bringing NABCO has come to help grow the economic status in the country. He took his District as a case study for us. Since trainees were posted to revenue Ghana, the District has exceeded their target for the year 2019 and a half year of 2020. All other modules in his District have improved every sector they were posted. He also assured trainees to put up a right attitude so that by the end of the contract in 2021, we can get good news from the government who implemented this scheme.

Mr Adjei Stephen, the Techiman North coordinator, gave the closing remark and also took the trainees through how to use the Nabco logbook. A Logbook was given to all the trainee who was present. Before the start of the program, if a trainee goes to the registration table, he/she is handling the Logbook and then goes for your seat. The Logbook contains pages for trainee’s details and other pages for logging trainee’s workshop details.
