An assessment visit by NADMO officials to Guakro Effah Senior High School has revealed significant safety concerns requiring immediate attention, prompting a comprehensive intervention plan to address identified risks and prevent potential disasters at the educational institution.
The exercise, conducted on February 20, 2026, involved a thorough inspection of key facilities including the dining hall, dormitories, kitchen, canteen, staff common room, and assembly hall. The objective was to identify safety risks and recommend preventive measures to protect students and staff.
The assessment revealed several concerning issues including faulty electrical wiring, poor lighting in dormitories, weak structural conditions in the canteen, and the use of firewood in the kitchen, which poses a significant fire hazard to the entire school community.
Additional issues identified included the absence of a perimeter fence, lack of a designated ironing bay for students, and inadequate dining infrastructure that could potentially lead to overcrowding and related safety risks.
School management welcomed the intervention and expressed commitment to implementing recommendations provided by NADMO, including electrical repairs, structural improvements, transition to safer cooking systems, and establishment of a School Disaster Volunteer Group to enhance disaster preparedness within the institution.
The same exercise was conducted at the Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High School, demonstrating NADMO’s commitment to ensuring safety in public institutions across the district. Both schools have been provided with detailed reports outlining priority areas for intervention.
